NYSE undertakes IBM mainframe migration to Unix and Linux

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is migrating off a 1,600 millions of instructions per second (MIPS) mainframe to IBM System p servers running AIX and x86 Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) servers running Linux, with the first part of the move going live today.

IBM Mainframes to get game!

Computer giant IBM is set to reveal a new project which will merge business mainframes with the microchip used in the latest Sony PlayStation. IBM and multiplayer online game firm Hoplon Infotainment have teamed up to integrate the Cell game console processor with Big Blue's mainframe computers, according to reports. The two firms have worked together in the past on the mainframe hosting of a beta version of a massively multiplayer online game. Story from The Register Infoworld Article here
